Renewal of Vows

Chennai - The Lord’s blessings are abundant this year to DGMS as it celebrates its tenth anniversary. On May 26th there were thirty young seminarians that renewed their “Yes” to religious life following Christ and dedicating themselves for one more year. The Holy Eucharist, during which they renewed their profession, was solemn and concelebrated by four priests; the main celebrant was Rev. Fr. Soosai Rathinam, the vice provincial.   It was a heavenly sight to see all thirty young men in white cassocks, reminding us of the brighter tomorrow of the congregation and its mission. We give thanks to God and we all pray that they may grow more zealous, convinced and joyful in their self- giving to the Lord. We offer them our greetings and prayers.

Orphanage Visit

Vietnam - On May 2nd, Fr. Felicks Michaels, SdC visited two Vietnamese orphanages with the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary religious sisters. Most of the children living in these facilities are truly orphans, but some do have a parent who relies on the orphanage to help care for their child. The children were so happy to receive the visitors even though the visit was short. They shared soft drinks and desserts with the children and later Fr. Felicks and the sisters entertained them with songs and dance. May God, our loving Father descend upon the children and remain with them for ever.

Summer STEP Program

Legazpi - The Special Therapy and Education Program (STEP) at Guanella Center at Harong Kan Sagrada Familia, Bogtong, Legazpi City is undertaking the 2010 Summer Program for Children with developmental disabilities. There are 18 children enrolled this summer who are receiving Special Education (SPED), PT with Sped and solely PT intervention.

The activities to enhance the learning of the children undergoing SPED are Cognitive and Communication skills, Gross-Motor skills, Arts & Crafts, Music, Dance/Creative Drama, Expressive Movement and Activities of Daily Living. For our big kids, the emphasis is focused on home management; including cooking and selling cooked-food, for productivity.

The rigors of study are eased out with leisure activities. Thus every Friday the children are given the opportunity to join in different field activities like strolling, playing, picnics; visits to farms, museums, libraries, dentist, parlor and barber shop and hiking to chosen beautiful places here in the City of Legazpi and the Albay Province.
